HighChem participated in the Sustainable Materials Expo (SUSMA) held from October 29 to 31 at Makuhari Messe. Under the theme "A Select Shop for Sustainable Materials," the booth brought together sustainable materials handled by various divisions of the company. For the event, HighChem formed a cross-functional sustainability team, with all members dressed in matching custom sports uniforms, embodying a unified "One Team" spirit. Today, we’ll highlight the key attractions and noteworthy features of the HighChem booth that captured visitors' attention at the exhibition.
Insights from Executive Director and Head of Trade
Division, Jin Song Lin: Highlights of the Exhibition

We asked Jin Song Lin, Executive Director and Head of the Trade Division, about the key points of focus at this year’s exhibition. Here’s what he shared: “Biomass materials are a product category we aim to actively promote as part of the mid- to long-term development of our chemicals business. Similarly, our work on biodegradable materials, which began about three years ago, has finally gained market acceptance. Significant progress has been made, particularly in developing various products using PLA and PHA. Among these, the PHA-coated paper cup is a groundbreaking product with significant environmental benefits, and I am personally very excited about it. Additionally, we have achieved a major breakthrough in the field of inflatable films—long considered difficult to combine plant-based origins, transparency, and biodegradability—by blending PHA and PLA. We plan to actively promote these products to our customers and look forward to their adoption in diverse applications.”
Spotlight on the "Biomass" and "Recycling" Corner
A Diverse Showcase from Monomers to Polymers
One of the most popular attractions at the HighChem booth was the "Biomass" and "Recycling" corner. This section featured a wide array of materials, including biodegradable resins such as polylactic acid (PLA) and PHA, known for its marine degradability. The display also highlighted bio-nylon for engineering applications, biomass-based monomers and solvents, polyols, and recycled resins.

"High-Performance Materials" Corner: Showcasing Proprietary Products and Partnered Offerings
The "High-Performance Materials" corner featured an impressive lineup of products, including high-performance solvent EEP (Ethyl 3-Ethoxypropionate) from PreChem, a Shenzhen-based manufacturer with which HighChem signed a sales agency agreement in September. Also on display was ε-Caprolactone, introduced last year under a similar agreement. Making their debut at this exhibition were cyanate monomers and HighChem's proprietary expanded microcapsules, both of which garnered significant attention from visitors.

HighChem is involved in such fields?!
Introducing materials that contribute to perovskite solar cells and green hydrogen
HighChem also showcased materials contributing to green energy innovations, such as perovskite solar cells and alkaline water electrolysis materials. The hole transport material for perovskite solar cells garnered attention for its high purity and cost-effectiveness, making it a standout in the renewable energy space. Additionally, HighChem presented composite membranes and electrodes from Carbon Energy, a company that is one of only two in the world capable of producing the third-generation membrane for water electrolysis. Visitors were impressed and expressed surprise at the range of cutting-edge fields HighChem’s materials support, with one remarking, “I didn’t realize HighChem is involved in such advanced areas.”
