Biodegradable Materials

At HighChem, we believe that biodegradable materials are the key to solving the problem of microplastics. At present, suppliers of biodegradable materials such as PLA and PBAT are emerging with the aim of solving pollution problems in areas such as rivers in China. Our aim is to build close relationships with these suppliers, become a bridge to Japanese material manufacturers, and contribute to the worldwide spread of biodegradable plastics.

Products and services handled

HighChem has built up close relationships with Chinese biodegradable material suppliers and is capable of handling a wide range of biodegradable materials such as polylactic acid (PLA), PBAT and PHA.

PLA (Polylactic acid)

Stable supply system through strong partnership with Chinese suppliers

・Completion of PLA resin manufacturing plant with annual production capacity of 50,000 tons in 2020 at affiliated plant in China
・Biomass plastic produced from corn, etc.
・Biodegradable plastic that is decomposed by microorganisms
・Because it has antibacterial properties, it can be used for innerwear, etc.

PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoates)

Plastic material that is completely biodegradable in the marine environment

・Diverse physical properties

Fully biodegradable in the ocean, plant-derived, high bioabsorption
