HighChem Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Ushio Taka), a global chemical trading company and manufacturer, is enhancing its supply of raw materials and high-performance monomers for low-dielectric resins—essential materials for next-generation communications. To strengthen this business, HighChem has entered into a distribution agreement with Shenzhen Low-k Dielectric Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Low-k Dielectric Materials”), an emerging manufacturer in Shenzhen, China. Together, they have begun joint development of production technology and market expansion in Japan for CMS (Chloromethylstyrene) and BVPE (1,2-bis(4-vinylphenyl)ethane), key raw materials for low-dielectric substrates.

As generative AI becomes more widespread and communication infrastructure upgrades for Beyond 5G and 6G progress, demand is growing for next-generation communication materials capable of supporting high frequency, high speed, large capacity, and low latency. In particular, low-dielectric resins, which reduce signal transmission loss within circuit boards, are gaining attention as key materials for next-generation communication substrates, and their market is rapidly expanding.
However, due to the high difficulty of manufacturing these functional resin monomers, there are few suppliers, and supply is struggling to keep pace with market demand.
Under these circumstances, HighChem has partnered with the highly skilled Chinese startup Low-k Dielectric Materials through a distribution agreement. Through this agreement, HighChem will establish a stable supply system for high-performance raw materials and monomers for low-dielectric resins, supporting customers in solving procurement challenges for advanced product development.
Product Overview
1. Functional Resin Monomer CMS (Chloromethylstyrene)
CMS can be used as a raw material for BVPE (1,2-bis(4-vinylphenyl)ethane), which is used in low-dielectric resins for high-speed PCBs, and for low-molecular-weight PPO (polyphenylene oxide). It is also applicable as a raw material for silane coupling agents in electronic glass fibers, as well as for rubber and ion-exchange resins.
Low-k Dielectric Materials has a manufacturing base in Hubei Province with an annual production capacity of 500 tons.

2. Key Raw Material for Low-Dielectric Substrates: BVPE (1,2-bis(4-vinylphenyl)ethane)
BVPE is used as a raw material for low-dielectric resins.
It has
an annual production capacity of 100 tons100 tons.
