HighChem develops its own material for the next-generation solar cell "perovskite solar cell" that is attracting attention

HighChem Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Ushio Taka, hereinafter HighChem) has developed its own hole transport material "Spiro-MeOTAD" for perovskite solar cells, which is attracting attention as a next-generation solar cell. We have started offering our products.

What is Japanese-made next-generation solar cell perovskite solar cell?

Perovskite solar cells are the next-generation solar cells that are currently attracting the most attention in the world, and have high conversion efficiency that is almost equivalent to the currently mainstream silicon solar cells. The feature is that it exhibits high conversion efficiency even in low-light environments such as indoors, and can generate electricity even on rainy or cloudy days, which is difficult to do with conventional solar cells. In addition, since the manufacturing temperature can be set low, it can be developed into a film, leading to the development of foldable solar cells, which can be used as a power source for building walls, the roof of EVs, and IoT devices such as computers and smartphones. is also expected to be used.

Achieving “low cost and stable supply” of perovskite solar cell materials

Spiro-MeOTAD, a hole transport material for perovskite solar cells recently developed by HighChem, can be provided at a low price and can contribute to lowering the cost of manufacturing solar cells, which has been difficult with silicon type solar cells. We also support a stable supply of raw materials, making it possible to continue supplying them even when perovskite solar cells are mass-produced. Additionally, using our unique technology, we are able to handle high-purity (>99.5% purity) products.

Currently, we have established a small-volume production system at HighChem Tokyo Research Center and have begun providing products. Additionally, we are currently setting up a production system at our partner factory in China, and are able to respond to customer requests for mass production in both Japan and China.
